Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was a cleanliness drive launched by the government of India on 2 October 2014. This cleanliness campaign was launched for the entire nation on the 145th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. India needed this mission because despite having complete information, nobody was much serious about cleanliness around his house, workplace, and other places.
Because we know that cleanliness is our basic need. It is the need of not one, two, or several states but the entire nation. All of us need to cooperate in cleanliness. Even after 45 years of independence of the country, if there is a lack of adequate sanitation and awareness of people in the country, our participation in a mission like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan becomes not only necessary but also the need of the time.
The contamination of holy rivers like the Ganges of our country, the religious and historical sites getting dirty is a sign of our negligence towards cleanliness. Because all of these dirty things are spread by us, therefore cleaning them is also our responsibility.
The government had launched Swachh Bharat Mission through various campaigns in rural and urban parts of India. It was approachable to every individual so we could easily participate in these cleanliness drives. All these things together are a reason for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to be a mass movement.
