In 1940, the Indian Muslim League proposed the Lahore resolution in Lahore Session. The proposal demanded the independent princely states in the north-west region of India for the Muslim community. The Lahore Resolution had been passed by the Muslim League in the Lahore Session that was conducted from 22nd to 24th March 1940, by the twenty-five members.
The Muslim League was in favor of a separate sovereign nation for Muslims only. A historical resolution was passed in Minto Park, Lahore on 23rd March 1940. The resolution demanded a separate nation for Muslims that were living in India. The Muslim League members started movements and carried various processions for approval of their demand. Lahore Resolution is also referred to as Pakistan Resolution.
On 21sth March, Muhammad Ali Jinnah (President of All India Muslim League), addressed 1,00,000 audiences and got a warm welcome from his audience. The Lahore Resolution didn’t contain the word Pakistan. Jinnah claimed that Hindus and Press imposed the word Pakistan and sweep away the millions of Muslim aspirations.
The Pakistan Resolution met the expected predictions in the form of separation of India and Pakistan. In the memory of this historic event yearly “Pakistan Diwas” is observed on the 23rd of March
