The Lok Sabha Election 2019 for the world’s largest democracy was declared by the Election Commission of India. The election was conducted in seven phases across the country to constitute the 17th Lok Sabha. It was conducted for the 543 constituencies across the country which decided the fate of the candidates contesting for the election and the future Prime Minister.
The election was conducted by the use of around 39.6 lakh Electronic Voting Machines across the polling stations in the country. There were around 90 crores voters who took part in the General Election 2019 with around 46 crores of male and 44 crores of female population.
The elected candidates will be sent to the lower house (Lok Sabha) of the Parliament as MPs (Member of Parliament) who will play a deciding role in electing the Prime Minister of India.

The General Election 2019 was conducted in seven phases starting from 11th April till 19th May 2019.
The Phase-wise Election Date 2019 Schedule for the respective states is given below:
The first phase of the election was conducted on 11th April 2019 for 91 constituencies in 20 states viz, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Maharashtra, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.
Phase 1 Voter Turnout – 69.50%
The second phase of election was conducted on 18th April 2019 for 97 constituencies of 13 states comprising of Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Manipur, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Puducherry.
Phase 2 Voter Turnout – 69.44%
Third phase of the election was conducted on 23rd April, 2019 for 115 constituencies in 14 states of Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Tripura, Daman & Diu and Dadar & Nagar Haveli.
Phase 3 Voter Turnout – 68.40%
The fourth phase of the election was conducted on 29th April, 2019 for 71 constituencies in 9 states of Bihar, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
Phase 4 Voter Turnout – 65.50%
The fifth phase of the general election was conducted on 06th May, 2019 for 51 constituencies in 7 states of Bihar, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
Phase 5 Voter Turnout – 64.16%
Sixth phase of the election was held on 12th May, 2019 for 59 constituencies in 7 states of Bihar, Haryana, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Delhi.
Phase 6 Voter Turnout – 63.30%
The last phase of the election was conducted on 19th May, 2019 for the 59 constituencies in 8 states of Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, West Bengal, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh.
Phase 7 Voter Turnout – 61.85%
Final Voter Turnout of the Lok Sabha Election 2019 was 67.11% which is the highest in the history of Lok Sabha elections since 1951.
The counting of the votes for the General Election 2019 will begin on 23rd May. The benefit of contesting the election using EVMs will help in getting the result on the same day. The day will decide the number of seats won by the respective parties and also declare that who is going to form the next government in the country.
VVPAT is Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail machine which will help the voter to verify that his vote has been casted to the correct candidate to avoid any confusion.
Along with saving in Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), the vote will also be printed on the slip in the VVPAT machine which will be available for display for 8 seconds through a glass opening which will help the voter to verify his vote. The slip will be then dropped and collected in the VVPAT box securely and could be audited in case of any confusion.
Any individual who is a citizen of India residing in the country and attained the age of 18 years is eligible to vote. He can easily register himself through the online portal www.nvsp.in filling up the respective form and uploading the necessary documents.

Apart from the documents mentioned above it is also required that your name is present in the electoral rolls. It is better to check the name in the electoral rolls well in advance through the portal electoralsearch.in and raise complaint in case of missing name or any discrepancy.
